    One of your favorites, Dad:

    Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. 1807GÇô1882

    55. A Psalm of Life

    What the Heart of the Young Man Said to the Psalmist

    TELL me not, in mournful numbers,
    Life is but an empty dream!GÇö
    For the soul is dead that slumbers,
    And things are not what they seem.

    Life is real! Life is earnest! 5
    And the grave is not its goal;
    Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
    Was not spoken of the soul.

    Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
    Is our destined end or way; 10
    But to act, that each to-morrow
    Find us farther than to-day.

    Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
    And our hearts, though stout and brave,
    Still, like muffled drums, are beating 15
    Funeral marches to the grave.

    In the world’s broad field of battle,
    In the bivouac of Life,
    Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
    Be a hero in the strife! 20

    Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
    Let the dead Past bury its dead!
    Act,GÇöact in the living Present!
    Heart within, and God o’erhead!

    Lives of great men all remind us 25
    We can make our lives sublime,
    And, departing, leave behind us
    Footprints on the sands of time;

    Footprints, that perhaps another,
    Sailing o’er life’s solemn main, 30
    A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
    Seeing, shall take heart again.

    Let us, then, be up and doing,
    With a heart for any fate;
    Still achieving, still pursuing, 35
    Learn to labor and to wait.

    To all my Dorworth cousins and especially Aunt Fran
    I so wish I could be there with all of you to celebrate the life of Uncle Bill. I have such fond memories of him driving the car to take Ruthie to camp I think and having the suitcases fly off the top of the car! Uncle Bill was fun loving and I will always remember his warm smile. May you rest in peace Uncle Bill. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you on this sad day.
    With much love Beth

    Dad, This song came to me this morning as I was thinking of you…how wonderful it is to know that God’s love is so deep and great and encompassing!
    “O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free! Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me! Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above! O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore! How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore! How He watches oGÇÖer His loved ones, died to call them all His own; How for them He intercedeth, watcheth oGÇÖer them from the throne! O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best! GÇÖTis an ocean full of blessing, GÇÖtis a haven giving rest! O the deep, deep love of Jesus, GÇÖtis a heaven of heavens to me; And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!”
    I love you, Dad!!

    Fran, our hearts go out to you and your family at this time of sorrow. We always enjoyed Bill’s talks of Penn state and of being in the Navy during our visits with Gordon at Hooverwood. As you grieve know that we are remembering you and honoring the memory of Bill. Sincerely, Marie and Nancy
